The Art Of Being A Listener

As the author says, “Listening is not about hearing the world. It’s about hearing the one voice that makes your world.”

Scene 1: The Gathering Before the Fest

It was the last day of our college annual fest.
The air already carried a strange mix of nostalgia and excitement.
🎶
We weren’t at the campus yet, just sitting at a friend’s house, waiting for the evening to unfold.

She was there.
Wrapped in a beautiful saree or the saree was….
Maybe pink. Maybe lavender.
I don’t remember the shade exactly, because honestly, the colour was lost against the way she carried it.
💜✨

I don’t know whether I loved that colour or not, but it was pretty much to my heart…

The room was full of chatter. Friends laughing, scrolling, arguing, planning what to do at the fest and the after party.
But my world had already shifted.
I was tuned into just one frequency.

Her, Miss Unknown to you..

Scene 2: The Saree and Its Struggles

She was sitting next to me, I could feel her soft touch..

She started talking.

I started listening….

About sarees. About makeup.

How did she manage to find that beautiful piece in the store?

About how much effort it takes to put it. 💄👗
The folds. The pins. The heels. The time. The chaos.

Normally, I would have brushed this off.
I don’t usually care for all this.
It always felt… nonsense.

But not with her. 🌸
Not today. Not in that moment.

Every word became a story.
Every complaint became poetry.
I didn’t just hear her, I absorbed her.

She smiled midway, a little frustrated about the pallu not setting right.
And I thought,
How can someone make even irritation look so graceful?

I love to listen to her,,,

I love to admire her…

Scene 3: Silence Between Words

There were pauses in her story.
Small breaks where she sipped water. Or adjusted her bangles. Or looked around the room.
But in those silences, I was still listening.
💭

Listening to the rhythm of her breathing.
Listening to the way her presence filled the space.
Listening not just with ears, but with every corner of my mind.

Sometimes, being a listener isn’t about the words.
It’s about holding the moment.
About telling someone,
“I am here. Keep speaking. I’ll catch every bit of you.”

Scene 4: The Shift Within

My friends were joking, someone cracked a silly punchline.
Everyone laughed.
I didn’t.

They observed why this guy has been silent and out of zone

Nevertheless I was busy replaying her last sentence in my head.
Noticing the curve of her lips when she spoke.
💕
Wondering why my heart beats differently when she explains something so trivial.

Maybe this is what it means to listen.
To not judge.
To not categorize.
To simply… surrender.

Scene 5: The Walk to the Fest

Soon, we left for the fest.
The roads outside glowed under fairy lights.
🌃✨
Music from the campus echoed in the distance.

She walked ahead, adjusting her saree once more.
And I walked behind, quietly smiling at myself and following her.

(I was in a different world, imagining a world with her, after working hours, sitting on the balcony, close enough to feel her, with a mug of coffee in our hands. she was telling me how her day was, and I was looking at her, listening to all her words, observing all her expressions; it seemed like the best part of my day. And many unexpressed feelings in my heart….)

Because I realized,
The art of being a listener is not about understanding everything.
It’s about cherishing the little nothings.
It’s about letting someone’s voice become your favourite soundtrack.
🎶

Closing Whisper 🌸

That night, as the fest lights blurred into the sky, I carried her words like treasures.
Words that the world might dismiss as small talk.
But to me,
They were everything.

The art of listening is the art of loving silently.
And on that day, in that lavender saree evening, I mastered it.

✍️ Raj Patel, Signing Off!!

Still on the balcony, sitting too close to her.
Loving the way she talks.
Loving the way she expresses.
And as the author says,

👉 “The world may admire her beauty.
But I… I’ll be the one who admires her words.”

💭 And now I ask you, dear reader,
When was the last time you truly listened, not with your ears, but with your heart?
